The cpncept of icon is indissolubly tied to the history of Christianity, especially to Catholic Christianity. The reason can be found not only in the aesthetic value represented by the icons but also to the significance they always hold for the faithful. The icon is the worldly representation of the divine element. It’s, in a sense, the demonstration itself of divine, which in this particular case – by using a term that has little to do with the one normally used – is called “prototype”.
